A Week of Firsts: Swimming, Sunglasses and the Grand Canyon....

Sunday, September 29, 2013

We arrived home last night from our holiday.... it was nice to sleep in our own bed, and I think Jet appreciated being back in his crib! Holidays are great.... but getting back to routine is always nice too!

Poolside necessities...

It was the perfect first holiday for us with the little guy.... the condo we stayed at was great... Jet got to give swimming a try, we took a couple mini road trips, and I got to get in a little bit of shopping..... all in all a great week!

We scored these great sunglasses for Jet at the beginning of the trip! Amazing, Right???? Little hipster glasses, perfect for lounging by the pool and checking out the sights of AZ.... he is such a cool little dude!

Jet is ready to party here... I laugh everytime I look at this picture!
I don't think Jets first swimming experience was as exciting for him as it was for Ryan and I! He did like cooling off, and he didn't even mind getting his head dunked a couple times....it was good to see him content splashing his arms especially since we start swimming lessons this week.....he will be doing laps in no time ;)

The Grand Canyon was pretty huge and fairly uneventful....the drive was long, (4 hours each way), the concierge at the condo said we should give ourselves 4 hours to hang out there.... 4 Hours? Really? With a baby?? Not going to happen..... we pretty much drove there, got out of the car, checked out a couple viewpoints, grabbed lunch and packed back into the car..... I mean don't get me wrong, the Grand Canyon is one of the 7 Wonders of the World, and it was pretty incredible.... but it might be nicer to visit when the kid(s) are a little older and we can wander around a little longer...

Lastly, we watched the Phoenix Coyotes play the San Jose Sharks on the last night, Jets first NHL experience...he pretty much slept through the whole thing! Ryan and I enjoyed the game.... we ate pizza and Ryan drank beer, the experience paled in comparison to any game in Edmonton, the fans were pretty scarce, with the majority of the seats being free.... but it was good for us, we scored some pretty good seats for a great price, and it was a nice night out!

The week was great... and now it is back to real life! We have lots to look forward to in October, including the release of the new Arcade Fire album!!! Did anyone else catch the special that aired last night after SNL?!? I only saw part of it and it was amazing!

Five

Friday, September 27, 2013

What a great week we have had.... Jet is down for a nap and Ryan went for a workout, I am enjoying this quiet morning moment with a big cup of coffee and taking some time to reflect on this incredible life that I have been given.... and here it goes....

Not only do I now have the sweetest little boy to call my son, but I have this amazing man that is walking through life with me... It has been 11 years since Ryan and I started dating, 6 years since he asked me to marry him, and 5 years since we were married.... all I can think is where has the time gone??? These last 5 years have been truly amazing, the goals we have accomplished together, the dreams that are becoming realities, I couldn't imagine my life with anyone else; it is truly incredible to me the love we share.... I am forever grateful to have him in my life.... I think of how far we have come since we met..... and I can only imagine with a smile on my face the incredible road ahead! So Happy Anniversary to Us!!!

Ryan decided we would celebrate our anniversary a couple days early.... and what a great little celebration it was! He planned a beautiful evening complete with beautiful sights, great food and the best company a girl could ask for! We made the 2 hour trek to Sedona... which with some reluctance on my part (traveling with a baby for 2 hours for dinner didn't seem like the best idea...) was sooo worth it! What a beautiful place! The scenery was unbelievable, the red rock landscape was like nothing I had ever seen before and restaurants were 5 Star. We started out at a little place called Shugrues for a drink on the beautiful patio. It was sunset, and the views were stunning. We finished up and headed to our dinner reservation at a place called L'Auberge, and all I can say from here on out was WOW!!! It is no surprise this place is ranked in the top 10 for restaurants in the Southwest United States.... the atmosphere, the ambience, the food, the presentation, it was all magical. We got to sit creek side under a canopy of trees, the running water soothed Jet and he was calm the whole evening, allowing us to thoroughly enjoy the whole experience! Anybody heading in the Phoenix direction, should make the extra trek to this beautiful place.... you won't be disappointed!

Today we are going to do some more relaxing by the pool before heading into the city for a Phoenix Coyotes game! It should be a great time! It will be Jets first NHL game.... too bad they aren't playing the Oilers....

More to come on this and the rest of the trip soon!

Jetset to Scottsdale, AZ

Saturday, September 21, 2013

We made it to Scottsdale! Yesterday was an eventful day and Jet was a little trooper! Our flight left at 10:30AM (which was perfect because we were able to wake up at our regular time of 7:00AM). Jet was a champion on the flight here; he fell asleep in my arms on the tarmac before take off and seemed pretty much unaffected by the change in cabin pressure during both take-off and landing.... Double-Win for us! He drew a crowd on the plane, especially with the older +50 ladies; they all congregated to us in the back of the plane and watched him as he cooed and made sweet smiles.... Jet is a bit of a flirt by the looks of things....He is definitely getting more comfortable with new people and will smile and coo once he feels comfortable with those around him.

Although the flight was only 3 hours, we weren't able to get to our hotel room until quite a bit later in the day, Jet had a few cranky moments throughout the afternoon, but that didn't hold him back from giving us his first belly laugh later in the afternoon! It could have been the lack of sound sleep he didn't get throughout the day..... he was probably really over-tired, but hearing him burst into laughter was such a great feeling! Hopefully we will get video of it today, it truly is priceless to hear your child laugh for the first time! You can't help but laugh at their excitement; it really is one of life's sweetest moments!

The temperature here is HOT HOT HOT!!! We don't have much planned for the week other than just relaxing, playing by the pool and possibly taking in a hockey and baseball game. We were also thinking of checking out the Grand Canyon and Sedona if we get around to it.... we will see how the week progresses.

Jetset to Jasper

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

On August Long Weekend this year we decided we needed a get-away.... we hadn't taken any time away from home since before Jet was born.... Summers are so beautiful in Alberta, making it unnecessary to travel anywhere besides somewhere close.... we have been to Banff numerous time in the last couple years and for some reason I had been having a hard time remembering what Jasper is like....maybe it is the baby brain..... I mean I have been there plenty of times as a kid and even rang in New Years there about 6 or 7 years ago.... but I still could not remember the place... the decision was fairly easy to pack up our little family for a weekend of rest and relaxation...... plus it is a quick 3 hour drive from the city, and the mountains are always a good retreat and change of scenery for us city-dwellers....

A week before we left Jaclyn and Curtis decided to join us for the weekend as well, making our little get away all the better! With just weeks to go until thier little bundle was arriving, it was a much needed get away for them as well....Here is a little photo journey of the weekend.....

Jasper Park Lodge

Jet loves practicing his sword-fighter position!

30-some weeks prego...... giving her swollen feet some relief! Lookin good mama!

Lounging in the evening sun!

By far one of my favorites so far.... just pure happiness on both their faces!

My mountain men!

Uncle Curtis thought it was necessary to get Jet posed with the Bison.... thought it made for a good laugh!

Stunned!
